Grazia obtained her PhD in African Studies / Archaeology and Prehistory of Africa at the University of Naples 'L'Orientale' in Italy (2011), with a research project focused on the Predynastic site of Naqada, based on archaeological materials retrieved there by an Italian Expedition during the 1970‒1980s. She has since conducted two major postdoctoral projects on related topics. One of which was hosted by the Institute of Archaeology, University College London, UK, and the other by the Oriental Museum 'Umberto Scerrato' of the University of Naples 'L'Orientale'.

serious graziaHer first visit to Hierakonpolis dates back to 2007. Since 2009, she has taken part almost annually to the fieldwork seasons at the site, acting occasionally as an archaeological site assistant (at the elite cemetery in HK6) and more frequently as a ceramologist, being entrusted with the documentation and study of a series of Pre- / Proto-dynastic ceramic assemblages from several settlement localities within Hierakonpolis.

Her research centres on the formative phases of ancient Egyptian civilisation and explores how the various social, economic, political and cultural changes that accompanied the process of Egyptian state formation are reflected in a range of material culture, with a focus on pottery, miscellaneous small finds and settlement features. She also have a keen interest in archaeological archives, including their digitisation and re-use for further research, student learning and public engagement.
